Motorcycle Rider Courses


 

                                                     Basic Riders Course

     The Basic Rider's Course (BRC) is a 16 hour course of instruction for those 15 1/2 years of age and older who wish to develop safe street riding skills.  The course consists of classroom instruction and motorcycle riding exercises. This provides students with first-hand experience in the various techniques and maneuvers that will prepare them for the demands of street riding.  While previous motorcycle riding experience is not necessary, bicycle riding experience is helpful.
     The classroom portion of this course is conducted at the Minnreg building on Wednesday evening from 6 PM until 10 PM.  The corresponding range riding exercises are conducted at our St. Petersburg range on both Saturday & Sunday from 6:45 AM until 3 PM. Click here to view these locations.
    
This course is State required for motorcycle license applicants under age 21 and effective July 1, 2008 will be required of all persons regardless of age.

Experienced Rider Course

 
    The Experienced Rider Course (ERC) provides instruction for people of all ages who already own and ride a motorcycle and are interested in state-of-the-art motorcycle handling techniques or in just brushing up on street riding skills.  The course consists of 4 to 6 hours of specialized riding activities on your own motorcycle.  Your motorcycle must pass our safety inspection.

Basic Trike/Sidecar (STEP) Course
      The Basic  Trike/Sidecar (STEP) Course  provides instruction for all ages who are new to the operation of three wheel motorized vehicles. The course consists of both classroom instruction and hands-on training on our closed course.  Both classroom instruction and the closed course instruction is conducted at the Fletcher's Harley Davidson complex - Largo location on the southeast corner of Whitney Road and the North bound US 19 Service road.  Classroom activities are normally held on Wednesday evening and the required hands-on exercises are conducted on the following Saturday and Sunday.  The Wednesday evening classroom instruction is from 6 - 10 PM and the range riding experience is from 7:15 until 3 PM Saturday and Sunday. General Requirements

      Participants are required to provide their own pen or pencil when attending the Wednesday evenings classroom instruction.  During the Saturday and Sunday riding exercises, participants must wear a 3/4 length or Full Face DOT approved helmet (loaners are available), full-fingered leather gloves with a leather palm, long-sleeved shirt or jacket, long pants, over the ankle footwear and eye protection.    Classes are limited to 12 students.  These courses are strenuous and participants must be in good physical condition.
